TO ALL PARTICIPANTS!
The fire marshal will be watching closely. Please help us follow these important rules:
Absolutely NO FIREWORKS. They are illegal during our event. Even sparklers and fountains are illegal in Utah on the dates of our event. Each participant is responsible to follow this rule.
You may use camp stoves or fires in approved campfire containers (burn barrels are ok). However, NO open fires (e.g. on the ground) or unscheduled bonfires are allowed at the event. All open flames and fires must have a conspicuous fire extinguisher within 20 feet.
Fire performers must follow all safety precautions and must use “spotters” and fire extinguishers. Please give fire performers plenty of space (25 feet minimum) and do not talk to them while they are performing.
Event participants make up fire safety staff that will be supervising the burning of our fire art. Everyone is required to stay behind safety perimeters and must follow the orders of safety personnel and Rangers during bonfires or fire performances.
Firearms (GUNS) use fire too. Leave them home.
TO ALL FIRE PERFORMERS AND ARTISTS
IGNITION SAFETY:
You may not use gasoline, diesel fuel, or other high volatility fuels to ignite your fires. They tend to cause dangerous explosions. White gas (e.g. Coleman fuel) can be explosive and should not be used either. Use only liquid paraffin or charcoal lighter fluid as an accelerant. Explosions are bad!!!! If you have questions about safe ways to ignite your bonfire, please contact Smokey Mike before the event.
PERIMETERS:
You must create a safety perimeter, ensuring the perimeter size determined for your fire is created. This means you have to create a physical barrier or clear line beyond which spectators/participants cannot during the ignition and early stages of the pyre. Flags and chalk lines are acceptable, especially if a Ranger is present to enforce it. I’ll contact you once I assess your fire to tell you how large your perimeter has to be.
CLEAN UP:
After ignition, you must stay with the fire until all flames and smoke are extinguished completely. You are responsible to fully clean up your burn scar. Leave no evidence of your burn. YOU MUST provide necessary fire extinguishers.
Thanks for your cooperation…this process should be easy, but thinking ahead about some simple details will really prevent a lot of potential problems while we’re all trying to get into Element II…
Burning, burning, burning love…
