ART GRANT INFORMATION
WHAT CAN GET FUNDED?
- MATERIALS — in the form of visual, audio, performance, participatory, experiential art.
- TRANSPORTATION — can be awarded as part of an art grant, just include a break down of transportation costs in your proposed grant budget. We offer this in hopes of cutting down on total vehicle miles involved with getting art out to the festival.
- TICKETS — may be awarded for certain projects to ensure there is proper staff to execute set up and take down with a Leave No Trace plan. You can also request ‘performer tickets’ which give a $20 discount off the current ticket price when you enter the code online.
WHAT DOES NOT GET FUNDED?
- Grant monies will not be used for projects that have already been created, labor, durable goods, tools, food, or personal expenses unrelated to the art project.
- For instance, this means items that are valuable after the event like a generator will not get funded but the fuel to run it might be.
ART PROJECT ETHICS
- Use of recycled, reclaimed, found and/or re-purposed materials as much as possible is highly encouraged.
- Community participation– involve others in your project.
- Do not burn toxic materials!
LEAVE NO TRACE
- There is a strict Leave No Trace policy for all artists participating in the event. You are required to clean up everything to do with your art project and have a clean up plan in place before the event. Be conscious of the impact your project has on your surroundings and people nearby—including creation, set up, sound emissions, take down, and the effects of wind and elements while on display.
- Your project must be cleaned up BEFORE you leave the event. (Campers who stay Sunday evening on must pay Seabase the per night camping fee directly).
GOT FIRE?
- If your project will involve open flame of any kind, you will need to complete the fire art application along a written fire safety and clean up plan in addition to the grant application. You must have approval from our fire safety lead Bobby Gittins for all projects involving flame effects and burns.
- MAIN EFFIGY burns on Saturday night and is commissioned by Element 11. Bobby Gittins and his crew of volunteers have built the main effigy for the last four years.
SET-UP SCHEDULE
- Pre-construction and/or modular construction is encouraged; ideally projects should be able to be completely installed in 2 days or less. If you need more than 2 days you must contact us before July 1st, 2011. Early access to the playa is limited to those who need to be there and all early campers are required to pay an overnight camp fee ($5 per night per camper) directly to Bonneville Seabase.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Applications are due by midnight May 27th, 2011!
- Only proposals that contain all of the required information and are submitted on time will be considered.
- Only one grant per project will be allotted.
- Prior to the event, grant recipients will be expected to complete an expense form (provided with grant award) and must attach copies of all receipts for verification. Grant monies must be spent on the items outlined in your grant application budget–monies that are not spent on the art project must be reimbursed to Element 11 at the completion of the event.
- Grant recipients must adhere to all Element 11 and Bonneville Seabase policies at all times.
WHEN YOU WILL GET THE FUNDS?
- Grants will be awarded in June shortly after announcements are made following the submission deadline date of May 27th, 2011.
