Leave No Trace

Elemental Sentry UPDATE:      What’s happening with the Recycle stations?
NO TRASH * NO TRASH * NO TRASH
There will also be “No Trash” signs posted with each station and each participant will be gifted a trash bag along with the What Where When guide and poster at entry.

*Leave No Trace – Don’t let it hit the ground
*Bring pocket trash cans for cig butts (like  Altoids tin or film canister)

Please be conscious – keep matter well in it’s place – stoop for M.O.O.P. – leave no trace

NO TRASH
George and Linda accepted a donation of 20+ oil barrels – you know the type typically used for fire barrels? Shane (who designed the Lotus Petals for HATU CORE) mentioned that those same barrels will hold 55 gallon trash bags perfectly (!) – and the best way to manage them is to torch off the tops and bottoms, use the barrel to hold the bags, then lift the barrels off and the full bags slip right out.
So, this last weekend a few signs were torched out – “Glass” “Paper” “Plastic” and “Cans” made from the bottoms of these barrels. We now have our own containers and sign (one set so far) – including a donation of heavy duty clean up bags from the County :)

What’s still needed? While we have two of these stations created, they are not yet lit!  We need lights! – and we could easily use 2-3 more recycle stations – so there’s more torch work to be done :) We have Meggio and Christie Line have stepped up to say that they will help in creating additional educational signs to go with the recycle stations! We still need to re-purpose of the scrap-yard wood and materials (out at Sea Base) in creating a way to hang the signs and lights.
VOLUNTEERS * PARTICIPATE ! ! !
*to build frames to hold the signs and lights.
*to make sure there is a good power source for the lights
*to torch 2-3 more recycle stations(cutting the tops off barrels, cutting the signs out)*educational signs (in addition to the ‘paper’ ‘plastic’ etc.)
For Example: Meggio has requested informational signs promoting RADICAL Self-Reliance: ‘Find the Recycle Bin is Full?  Here’s what to do…’ with an illustration of where the full recycle bags are being collected on playa
NO TRASH * NO TRASH * NO TRASH

So, there’s a lot of support and some new infrastructure – but we certainly still need active VOLUNTEERS & PARTICIPANTS – key areas are in creating a frame to hold signs and lights prior to Element 11 – starting first with a focus on The Center as that will certainly be a heavily traffic area (we have a full production, sound, lights and 55+ performances on Center stage this year)… (yes we sure do) (and another 7 theme camps) (and several awesome burns)…

MAKE ART – BE ART – TAKE IT WITH YOU

DURING ELEMENT 11 ~YEAR 10~
*Keep your own camp clean – the wind will blow – be sure it doesn’t take your cups and decorations.  Headed out? Batten down – fold your chairs, put the chips away and recycle your cans

VOLUNTEERS – PARTICIPATE !!
