Website Updates
Thursday, 10 July 2008

I'm glad to see many people checking out the site. The last few weeks, I have been busy implementing a social network for the burn community. There have been some issues and bugs.

The log-in succes redirect has been fixed. The change in the search engine friendly (SEF) url has been disabled until all components and features have been implemented. I would hold-off on bookmarking anything except the home page as the auto rewriting of the links will be unstable until the end of July.

Registration should be fixed. An update to the component caused a few errors.

Please join the tribe Element 11 Website in the Utah Burn Tribe >> Computers and Internet category to provide feedback, features request and bug reporting.

Peace and Fire On!

Dogs Room/Board - Close to Playa
Monday, 16 June 2008

Thanks Jade (from the Yahoo group June 16 2008)

As a follow-up the discussion of dogs not being allowed at Seabase: I
boarded my dog
at the Pampered Pet Resort, 162 S Cooley St,
Grantsville, UT 84029 (435) 884-3374 and .www.pamperedpetresort.com

The place was beautifully clean and costs $14/night, as compared to $24-
$26/night in Salt Lake City.

Hugs to all, Jade Jaguar

Community Meeting Update
Monday, 16 June 2008

It was a good turn out for yesterday's meeting.  Welcome home Chuck! (Nicely decompressed after a few days in the wilderness) Thanks to Spice who took good notes and made sure the conversation stayed on track.  Thanks also to the Utah Arts Alliance for the space - I won't list everyone because it's a long list - but I will say everyone who attended contributed to the meeting - thank you for participating!

Phur Ball
- Element11 decompression/masquerade/festival tentative date set for July 19th (Saturday) - VOLUNTEERS: Please email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Decompression (post Burning Man) tentative date Sept 20th.

After Burn:
First, everyone agrees Element11 2008 was a bounty of ART, FIRE and PARTICIPATION - all generated by a beautiful community - thank you

The meeting opened with some discussion about Vivid Arts - what it is, how/why it formed, etc.

Pet/Dog policy - spread the word - (this is just a general draft, Wolf is writing up a more concise policy)
Pets/Dogs are not allowed at Sea Base.  If you should choose to ignore this rule and bring your pet/dog to a future event, please expect that you and your animal will be asked to leave.  Any pet found wandering at Sea Base without an owner will be leashed, taken to the gate and animal control will be called.  Service Dogs, while allowed, must be clearly identifiable (wearing a clear 'service' designation) and on a leash at all times (in accordance with Utah Law).  Please do not test this - you will be the example.  Make arrangements in advance to care for your pets.

Leave No Trace

(taken from www.burningman.com)
"Leaving No Trace
Our community respects the environment. We are committed to leaving no physical trace of our activities wherever we gather. We clean up after ourselves and endeavor, whenever possible, to leave such places in a better state than when we found them."

Got butts? Get creative!  Little plastic film canisters, empty altoids tins - these are just two suggestions for what can fit in your pocket and carry cigarette butts, gum wrappers and other small trash.  Don't Trash the Playa - Pack it in/Pack it out.
Radical Self-Reliance - anticipate that there will be no garbage cans, no dumpsters - take responsibility - come prepared with a container (bag, etc) fit to carry your trash with and away with you. (as in far away, to the city...)

Rangers! http://www.burningman.com/on_the_playa/infrastructure/brc_rangers.html
Big thanks to the many Rangers who came to the meeting.  Ranger Genius is putting together a concise policy clarifying how our community handles security on the playa - it's a matter of balancing radical self-reliance with the safety of yourself and others.

A special meeting of the Vivid Arts Board, open to community members, will be held this Tuesday June 17th at 7pm.  The purpose of this meeting is to discuss 'the business end' of things (bylaws, etc).  For details, including location, please contact Terra This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

I think this sums it up - the meeting lasted about 2 hours.  Thanks again to everyone for a great event - I'm really looking forward to our community's next creative endeavor!
